Ever since

You left your small town 

to go to college

and study abroad 

and surrounded yourself with different people with new lived experiences 

and perspectives than you and started looking at societal issues more critically 

and questioned the belief system you were raised up in 

and then moved across the country with no family or friends 

and began a life there in a completely different culture than you’ve ever known, 

you seem to demonstrate more empathy and compassion and curiosity

than you ever did in your first 18 years of life 

I dunno… you’ve changed.
